ایرانی میڈیا کے مطابق قومی یوم آبادی کے موقع پر جاری ایک پیغام میں سپریم لیڈر مجتبی خامنہ ای نے شرحِ پیدائش بڑھانے کی ضرورت پر روشنی ڈالی اور بچے پیدا کرنے کے رجحان کو فروغ دینے کی کوششیں تیز کرنے کا مطالبہ کیا۔ایرانی سپریم لیڈر نے آبادی کے شعبے میں کام کرنے والے کارکنوں کے اس خط کا جواب دیا جس میں ان کے والد آیت اللہ خامنہ ای کی شہادت پر تعزیت اور محبت کا اظہار کیا گیا تھا۔مجتبی خامنہ ای نے کہا کہ آبادی میں اضافے کی ضرورت کو کبھی کبھی صرف ماضی کی پالیسی کی خامیوں کی تلافی کے طور پر دیکھا جاتا ہے، تاہم اس کا ایک زیادہ اہم اسٹریٹجک پہلو بھی ہے۔
